Leaving Canada

Your provincial plan stays home. Your coverage shouldn't.

Provincial health plans pay only a small part of medical costs outside your province. Cover the gap with up to $5 million in emergency medical — and protect what you've prepaid for your trip.

Worth adding when you quote

Make the plan fit your trip.

These show up as checkboxes and options on the quote screen. Here's when each one is worth it.

Look for these on the quote screen. They're easy to skip past — pick the ones that match what you'll actually be doing.
Add-on

Cancel for Any Reason

Get back up to 50% of your non-refundable prepaid costs if you cancel for a reason that isn't otherwise covered. Needs a plan with trip cancellation.

Add-on

Top-Up

Work or credit-card coverage too short for your trip? Tick Top-Up and TuGo covers the days after your other plan ends.

Add-on

Sports & Activities

Most activities are already covered. Add this for higher-risk ones like backcountry skiing, scuba below 40 m or white-water Class VI.

Add-on

Baggage

Covers your belongings if they're lost, stolen or damaged — in transit, at your hotel or along the way.

Add-on

Rental car protection

Covers damage to or loss of a rental car, so you may not need the rental counter's daily coverage.

Plan option

Trip interruption

Already paid for your trip and can't cancel it anyway? Interruption alone covers you if you have to cut it short.

Before you buy

Before you buy.

A few things to have straight before you quote.

Travelling through or to the US? Answer 'Yes' to the US question on the quote form — plans that exclude the US are cheaper but won't cover you there.
  1. You're a Canadian resident covered by your provincial or territorial health plan for your whole trip.
  2. You're not travelling against a doctor's advice.
  3. Any medical conditions you have meet the stability rules for your age — the quote asks, and your policy wording lists them.

Your quote, step by step

Every screen you'll see, in order.

Here's exactly what TuGo asks, and what to choose.

  1. 1

    Trip details

Your province, destination, departure and return dates, birthdate and total trip cost. Going to or through the US? Answer Yes to the US question.

  2. 2

    Single trip or annual

Single Trip covers this trip. Multi Trip Annual covers every trip for a year, each up to the length you pick. The annual upgrade price shows right on the screen.

  3. 3

    Pick your plan

Emergency Medical (Excluding USA or Worldwide), the All Inclusive Holiday Package, or the Non-Medical Package. Use the plan cards above to decide.

  4. 4

Tick what applies on the plan

Top-Up if work or credit-card coverage covers the first part of your trip. Sports & Activities if you'll do something higher-risk — type the activity, pick it, tick each traveller.

  5. 5

    Medical questions (age 60+)

Travellers 60 and over answer a medical questionnaire before a price appears. Answer carefully — an inaccurate answer means a US$15,000 deductible on any claim.

  6. 6

    Extras, review and pay

Add Cancel for Any Reason, baggage, rental car or trip interruption. Check names, birthdates and dates, then pay. Quotes are saved for 30 days.

Tip: Prepaid a lot? Add trip cancellation when you book — not the week before you leave.

Policy Wording

The full contract. Read it before you travel — especially the exclusions and the pre-existing condition rules.

Included free

  • myTuGo account to change, extend or claim online
  • Free 3GB eSIM (MySIM)
  • MyFlyt lounge pass or cash for 2+ hour flight delays

Check every detail. Names, birthdates and dates must be right. Call 1-855-929-8846 if anything needs fixing.

Good to know

Common questions

Do I need travel insurance for trips inside Canada?
Often, yes. Your provincial plan doesn't cover everything in another province — things like ambulance and some hospital costs. TuGo's plans cover you outside your home province, in Canada too.
My credit card includes travel insurance. Is that enough?
Check how many days it covers and the age limits. Many cards cover only a short trip. If yours runs out before you come home, add a Top-Up for the remaining days.
What's Cancel for Any Reason, exactly?
An add-on to trip cancellation coverage. If you cancel for a reason that isn't already a covered risk, you can get back up to 50% of your non-refundable prepaid costs, or up to your chosen sum insured — whichever is less.
I work remotely and travel for months. What should I buy?
Pick Worldwide if you'll set foot in the US, and add Sports & Activities for anything higher-risk. For several trips a year, compare Multi Trip Annual. Most importantly, your provincial health plan must stay active the whole time — most provinces limit how long you can be away each year, so check yours before a long stretch abroad.
Single trip or annual — which should I choose?
If you'll take more than one or two trips this year, compare the annual upgrade shown on the quote screen. One policy covers each trip up to the length you choose.
What do I do in an emergency?
Call TuGo's 24/7 assistance line first — it's on your wallet card and in the TuGo Wallet app. They'll guide you to the right care and tell you what to do next.
