About Canada Travel Insurance

Years ago, a steady stream of young travellers on working holidays poured into Whistler for the snow season and the bike season — it was easily a quarter of them, chasing the dream. The trouble started when they got hurt. Backcountry skiing, downhill mountain biking, the stuff they actually came here to do… and their travel insurance quietly didn't cover any of it. So they got sent home with medical bills in the thousands, and families on the other side of the world scrambling to pay them.

That didn't sit right with us. So Whistler Travel Insurance was born — out of necessity, not a marketing plan. We sourced policy after policy, and most providers shrugged. TuGo was one of the only ones who actually listened, recognized the gap, and built a solution by adding adventure sports to their lineup. Suddenly, the kid dropping into a backcountry line had the same safety net as the family on a beach vacation.

That worked so well we grew to cover all of British Columbia as BC Travel Insurance — and then we realized the problem wasn't a Whistler problem or even a BC problem. It was a Canada problem. Visitors arriving here, Canadians heading out into the world to chase their own adventures — everyone deserved to come home with a story, not a bill. So we became Canada Travel Insurance, reaching travellers at every stage of the journey, coast to coast.

We're still headquartered in Whistler to this day, and we're still powered by Ocean Sun Financial. Because the adventure-sports coverage is optional, TuGo keeps the base rates genuinely great for every kind of traveller — and yes, we do compare options across providers, with more coming to the site soon. But the mission hasn't changed since that first chairlift: make sure no family ever pays thousands because their loved one bought the wrong policy.
